Source. Ini adalah perangkat yang menghasikan data yang akan ditransmisikan;
Contohnya telepon dan personal komputer.
Transmitter. Biasanya, data yang dihasilkan sumber tidak
ditransmisikan secara langsung dari tempat dimana sumber tersebut dihasilkan.
Sebaliknya, transmitter mentransformasikan dan menyandikan informasi serupa
untuk menghasilkan sinyal elektromagnetik yang dapat ditransmisikan sepanjang
sistem transmisi. Sebagai contoh, modem menkodekan sinyal bit digital dari
perangkat yang terhubung dengannya menjadi pesat bit dalam sinyal analog yang
dapat digunakan oleh jaringan telepon.
Sistem Transmisi. Ini dapat berupa saluran transmisi tunggal (single
transmission line) atau jaringan kompleks (complex network) yang
menhubungkan sumber dengna tujuan.
Receiver. Receiver menerima sinyal dari sistem transmisi dan mengubahnya menjadi
sesuatu yang dapat digunakan oleh perangkat penerima (destination device).
Sebagai contoh, modem dapat menerima sinyal analog yang datang dari jaringan
atau jalur transmisi dan mengubah sinyal tersebut menjadi pesat bit digital.
Destination. Menerima data yang datang dalam pesat bit digital.
